I did not say that you remember the syntax without understanding what you are learning.

If one remembers the syntax for iterating a collection, but does not understand differences among arrays, and various types of lists, that does not make such person into a good developer.
IMO The only valid point is that it is useful to write logic in pseudo-code first when one learns.
